Celebrate at your next outdoor get together with a cocktail as colorful as the flowers in your yard. Festive, zingy, and downright delicioso, these tasty Tropical Hibiscus Margaritas may be the best you’ve ever tasted.
For ease, the first half of the recipe can be prepped ahead of time. In a small saucepan, hibiscus tea is cooked with water and sugar, creating a beautiful bright red simple syrup. Toss a few fresh sliced strawberries in there, and they’ll be coated with that lovely ruby color, too.
Once cooled, the simple syrup is drizzled into the bottom of a glass, topped with ice, limes and kiwi, then the simplest kiwi-kissed margarita is mixed together and poured on top. Tequila, lime juice and triple sec. May not sound like much, but that combo, when mixed with the sweet hibiscus syrup makes for an incredible flavor combo.

Tropical Hibiscus Margaritas
YIELD: 4 drinks
PREP TIME: 15 minutes
TOTAL TIME: 20 minutes
- 2/3 cup water
- 5-6 hibiscus or berry tea bags
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup sliced strawberries
- 1 kiwi, peeled and sliced
- 2 limes, wedges
- 4 key limes, sliced
- 2/4 cup lime juice
- 8 oz tequila (about 4 full shots)
- 8 oz triple sec (about 4 full shots)
- 1 kiwi, peeled and diced
- Crushed ice
- Mint sprigs
In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil. Once boiling, add tea bags, boiling just until the water turns bright pink. Remove tea bags, add sugar. Stir constantly until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, stir in strawberries. Transfer to a heat-safe bowl and place in fridge until cool.
When ready to serve, spoon syrup into the bottom of four wide-mouthed pint sized mason jars. Top with ice, filling jars about 3/4 full. Top with sliced kiwi, lime wedges and key lime slices.
In a cocktail shaker or pitcher, mix together lime juice, tequila, triple sec and diced kiwi. Stir or shake until well mixed. Pour over ice in each glass. Garnish with mint sprigs.
NOTE: If desired, rim glasses with coarse salt.
